Founded in 1795, Union College was named to reflect the founders’ desire to create a welcoming academic community open to all religions and nationalities. Union is located in Schenectady, N.Y., a safe, small city that is part of upstate New York’s Capital Region. Our campus is an easy 20-minute drive from Albany International Airport, and three hours to New York City and Boston. Union’s approximately 2,200 full-time undergraduates come from 41 U.S. states and 35 other countries. 12% of our incoming class is international.
We are a nationally recognized leader in integrating the arts, humanities and social sciences with science and engineering in bold and innovative ways. In 1845, Union became the first liberal arts college to offer a degree and multiple majors in engineering. Our students enjoy state-of-the-art facilities, including the recently renovated Feigenbaum Center for the Visual Arts and the $100 million expansion of our Science and Engineering Center. Union also leads the way in undergraduate research. Roughly 80 percent of students conduct original research or complete a creative project with faculty on campus. Students intern at more than 500 organizations worldwide to put what they learn into action and gain valuable experience for future careers. Union has been named among the “Best Liberal Arts Colleges by Salary Potential” by payscale.com and Forbes. Ninety-eight percent of Union graduates are employed full-time, enrolled in graduate school or pursuing post-graduate and fellowship experiences within a year of graduation. Union offers merit and need-based financial aid for international students.
