Tulane University, founded in 1834, is a highly selective, private research university located in New Orleans, Louisiana. There are 6,800 undergraduates on our campus, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 8:1, and over 75 majors offered. The university is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities, a select group of the 62 leading research universities in the United States and Canada with “preeminent programs of graduate and professional education and scholarly research.” Research in many disciplines has flourished at Tulane through the establishment of centers such as, the Murphy Institute of Economics and the Tulane Cancer Center, among others. While Tulane maintains the highest designation for research activity, the university is also recognized for the atmosphere of a smaller institution with classes averaging 21 students, and a flexible curriculum that encourages the study of multiple disciplines and their intersections. New Orleans has long been a city of international trade and exchange, with the most active foreign trade zone in the U.S. due to our port. Tulane values the experience our students gain from our city and as such, is well-known for its emphasis on public service and internships within the community.
