University of Rochester is a private institution that was founded in 1850. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 6,535, its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 707 acres. University of Rochester's ranking in the 2020 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, #29.

The University of Rochester describes itself as one of the smallest and most collegiate schools among the nation’s top research universities. The school also offers more than 300 student organizations and competes in NCAA Division III sports. Rochester’s 6 a cappella ensembles are among the country’s best. Freshmen and sophomores are required to live on campus, and 90% of students choose to remain on campus all 4 years.

Rochester’s main campus is located two miles south of downtown Rochester, N.Y., in the bend of the Genesee River. Besides the River Campus, U of R is also comprised of 4 other unique campuses: The Eastman School of Music, The Institute of Optics, UR Medical Center and The Memorial Art Gallery. The school’s unique "Take Five Scholars" program provides students an additional tuition-free semester or year studying topics of interest outside of their major.
