South Asian Winter Camp (SAWC) is an online, free-of-cost, two-week academic and mentoring program for South Asian secondary school students (ages 14-18). It will be held from December 18th 2020 to January 3rd, 2021. Our aim of this program is two-fold. Firstly, to connect South Asian college and secondary school students to create student-centered, experiential and interactive learning experiences in diverse subjects that promote independent thought, critical thinking, and the ability to engage with others’ opinions. SAWC’s classes are designed especially for South Asian students, by university students. These classes are small, interactive, and focus on diverse subjects. They are meant to excite curiosity and develop confidence. Secondly, we aim to develop genuine and sustainable mentor-mentee relationships that promote personal and academic growth for both mentors and mentees. SAWC’s mentorship component involves both one-on-one mentorship and events to help students develop personally and professionally. Events will range from workshops teaching public speaking to small sessions on mental wellness. SAWC is an effort to bring together students from every corner of South Asia for learning, growth, and friendship!
